Emily Lazar & band members from September Mourning
You may have seen her in several bands in NY, the hot sexy model in the
Draven ads all over town, or on tour with Marilyn Manson this year
fronting her new band September Mourning... Now we sit down with a one
on one with the hot and sexy Emily Lazar.
Can you tell me a bit about the type of music your playing with September
Mourning.. ? I've heard a few of your new tracks you sent me and they vary a little.. How would you describe your style?
EL: SM is a metal/electroindustrial/pop band ... We take a little from all these to make a brutal sound that's all our own.
I know this isn't your 1st music project can you tell me a little about your journey and how it feels to finally be achieving some of the success you deserve?
EL: It's
amazing. I have been on stage since i was 4 yrs old... in and out of
bands and solo projects that had limited growth and finally have found
my niche.... And the best part of it is that its 100% me.. nothing
manufactured, which seems to be the trend these days in bands. This is
my vision and creation. I feel blessed to have the people around me in
this project and the opportunity to really make it huge. I remember
being out on stage this past tour with Marilyn Manson and just jumping
into the crowd, reaching down to them... their hands held me up and i
just sang my heart out. There's no better place in the world as that
place for a musician. It's heaven. I left home when i was 12 to chase a dream. My whole life has led me to this point.
How did you get into music?
EL: As i said before i have always been on stage. I went to a performing
arts school. I can't really remember a time that i didnt express myself
through the arts in all mediums. Music just seemed to be my calling....
and my passion.
Emily Lazar
Now your a high energy rock chick but you are an extremely beautiful woman
that many people may recognize from your modeling gigs which there have been quite a few. Who and what brands are you working with now?
EL: Awww Thank you =] . I
tend to do gigs for brands that me and the band use. Draven, Coffin
Case and Manic Panic are just a few that i am involved with. You can
see my image on billboards to magazines to posters, etc. These
companies endorse and support the project. 99% of the ads i do i style
and conceptualize myself so it becomes a piece of visual art i can call
my own.
Whats the Album status? I hear your about to go into the studio?
EL: We
are heading into the studio soon with a very well known producer who
really knows our sound. I'm super stoked to work with him. We are
writing more material for the record... I want to bring in as much
material as we can to pick through.
I heard there is a multimedia aspect to what your doing ?
EL: Indeed....
I always refer to this as a project just for the fact that it is much
more than a band. We want to bring so much more to the table than just
the norm. The music biz is changing and within that change there is a
huge opportunity for growth into other areas. it's going to be an
amazing ride.
I know you are on tour with Marilyn Manson. What kind of experience i that like?
EL: When
i first started in bands 3 of the ones that i wanted to tour with the
most were NIN, Slayer and Manson. It's an amazing thing to be able to
check one of them off the list. Manson is super intelligent, creative
and inspiring. He and his crew were nothing short of amazing to me and
my band. There's a level of craziness that comes with creative types
and it was comforting to be with pple that i didnt have to explain
myself to... haha
Any great stories?
EL: O.o yeah... but you gotta wait for my memoirs for those. hahaha!
I'll
tell you one little one about our Missoula show. I messed my foot
jumping off a stage in Pamona (that didnt stop me from doin it again
night after night though) so when we got to Missoula I was on a crap
ton of Advil and well kinda didnt know that they put this ingredient in
Advil that makes you throw up if you take too many so you don't o.d.
Well that night i guess i took too many cause right after the set i
went running off the stage to the nearest trash can and puked my guts
out. For real. It was brutal. Boot, Manson's bass tech just stood there
watching me and was like "you're so f*cking hot" hahaha
Tell me about the band members and how you all got together...?
EL: We
have been friends for a while.... me and the core members of this
project. Chris (guitars/keys/programming) knows my crazy and deals with
it. I'm lucky to have him in my life. It's a gift to find pple that all
share your vision and will follow you even if its a sketch path you may
chose. We have a shared mission you could say.
Who are your influences and the bands as well?
EL: Trent and NIN, Slayer, Manson, Alice Cooper, Kiss, Souxsie and the banshees.... there are a ton.
Anything you would like to share with others looking to get into the music industry?
EL: Follow
your heart. never give up and never give in. Be true to yourself and
what you do. it's a long road.... It takes a lot of courage.
Give me an idea what to expect from September Mourning and Emily Lazar in 2010?
EL: Greatness.
Lots of touring. I always say put me on the road forever and i will be
happy. No home but the road. I love meeting new people and most of all i
love giving to the audience... melting faces with rock and roll. Expect
a release so you can get us on your ipods. And my face in some more
mags probably really soon and some other places too ;)
What is on rotation on Emily Lazar's i-pod?
EL: Right
now i'm lovin on the new Every Time I Die record and A Day to
Remember... but you'd prob be pretty surprised by the eclectic mix i
got goin on.
