Matthew Modine debuted his short films When I Was a Boy, Smoking, and Ecce Pirate at the Sundance Film Festival. Smoking was
written by David Sedaris as part of a National Public Radio program
produced by Ira Glass. Modine wrote the screenplays for each of his
other short fims.
